Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our mobile in-home repotting service, custom soil mixes, and booking your visit in Christchurch.
How It Works & Logistics
The mobile repotting process, coverage zones, and our spotless clean floor guarantee.
What exactly is a "mobile" repotting service?
It means the potting bench comes to you! We pack up our tools, tarps, and premium soil blends and drive directly to your house. We can work on your driveway, patio, or right in your living room, taking the heavy lifting and dirt out of your hands.
What areas do you cover?
We are based right here in Christchurch and service the wider city area. If you live a bit further out, just send us a message—we’re always happy to see if we can work out a travel arrangement.
Will my house get covered in dirt?
Not a chance. Our motto is "No Mess, No Stress." We lay down heavy-duty tarps and bring a self-contained mobile workspace. When we leave, the only evidence we were there will be your happy, freshly potted plants.
Do I need to provide the new pots?
Yes, please have the new nursery or decorative pots ready for your plants' size upgrade. If you are totally stuck on what size to buy, reach out before our appointment and we can advise you, or bring a few standard nursery pots with us for a small fee.
Plant Care & Materials
Custom chunky blends, seasonal repotting timings, pest triage, and slow-release fertiliser.
What kind of soil do you use?
We don't use generic, off-the-shelf potting bags. We hand-mix custom, chunky substrates tailored to indoor plants. Our premium mixes pack the ideal combination of nutrients, aeration, and drainage to help your plants flourish.
Is there a specific time of year to do repotting?
Spring and early summer are generally the ideal times to repot. As plants wake up from winter dormancy, the warmer temperatures and longer daylight hours give them the energy they need to heal from root disturbance and quickly fill their new pots with healthy roots.
However, there are a few exceptions to this rule:
Emergencies: If your plant is dealing with severe root rot, pest issues, or toxic soil, it needs to be repotted immediately to save it, regardless of the season.
Autumn & Winter: If your home is kept consistently warm and you get plenty of light, winter repotting is fairly safe, though growth will be slower.
What is the difference between a full repot and simply "potting up"?
If a plant simply needs to be "potted up"—meaning it is moved into a slightly larger container with its root ball kept completely intact—it will experience very little shock. Because of this, potting up can be done much more flexibly year-round compared to a full repot where the old soil is stripped away and replaced.
What if my plant is sick or has bugs?
If we spot a mild pest issue during our visit, we can do a basic treatment and give you an aftercare plan. Pest triage incurs an additional cost, as specified on the Booking Enquiries Page. (Note: If a plant has a severe, active infestation, let us know beforehand so we can discuss the best course of action without risking your other plants! Additionally, please be aware that Repot & Refresh is not responsible for pre-existing root rot, underlying diseases, or extreme transplant shock due to pre-existing poor health.)
Do you fertilise the plants when you repot them?
Absolutely. Every fresh repot includes a premium, slow-release fertiliser mixed right into the substrate, which will keep your indoor jungle fed and thriving for the next 3 to 6 months.
Pricing & Booking
Transparent pot-size pricing, online estimates, and simple appointment preparation.
How much does a session cost?
Pricing is based on the diameter of the pots and the total number of plants you need refreshed during the visit. Head over to the Booking Enquiries Page to use the price estimate calculator—if you are happy with the numbers, just send through a booking enquiry to secure your spot! You can also attach photos of your indoor jungle to help with a more accurate final quote.
How do I prepare for my appointment?
Just gather the plants you want repotted and their new pots into one general area. Make sure there is a clear spot for us to lay down our tarp (about 2x2 metres is plenty), and we’ll handle the rest!
